The Environmental Protection Agency of Guyana has confirmed that all exploration activities at the Kurupung uranium project are currently on hold. This suspension will remain in effect until the Environmental Assessment Board completes its review of pending appeals. These legal challenges contest the agency's previous decision to grant the project an exemption from conducting a full Environmental Impact Assessment. Kemraj Parsram, the Executive Director of the EPA, stated that no field operations can move forward while the board evaluates these objections. The regulatory process requires a definitive ruling from the EAB before the developers can initiate any work on the site. Consequently, the project remains at a standstill as authorities address the concerns raised regarding the environmental oversight of the uranium exploration venture.
