Fazil Karimbaksh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police and leader of the Special Organised Crime Unit in Guyana, has officially challenged the order issued by Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken. The directive required Karimbaksh to begin his pre-retirement leave immediately. Represented by his lawyer, Rizwaun Mohamed, the official has formally rejected the legal basis for this administrative decision. Karimbaksh maintains that the mandate is unjustified and has signaled his intention to initiate formal legal proceedings if the situation is not resolved. This dispute highlights a significant internal conflict within the top leadership of the Guyana Police Force regarding the enforcement of retirement protocols.
