President Irfaan Ali announced that a medical team from India’s Apollo Health Systems will arrive in Guyana to perform seventeen heart surgeries on children with congenital defects. This initial phase is scheduled to take place from September 28 to October 2. A subsequent mission is planned for December, which will provide surgical interventions for ten additional minors. The administration intends to resolve all pending cases by the first quarter of 2027. To support the families involved, the government has committed to covering transportation costs and providing lodging for those residing outside of Georgetown. The President confirmed these details following a meeting with the parents of the patients, emphasizing the state's role in facilitating these essential medical procedures.
