The Guyanese administration intends to broaden the agricultural scope of the Essequibo Coast by moving past its traditional reliance on rice cultivation. Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha announced that the government is prioritizing the expansion of poultry farming and the development of high-value crops to strengthen the local economy. During a ceremony marking the start of construction for a new rice storage facility, the minister emphasized that while rice remains a key component, diversifying into new sectors is essential for regional growth. This strategic shift aims to create a more resilient agricultural framework by introducing varied production methods and new commercial opportunities for local farmers in the area.
