The Guyanese administration has concluded a migration pact with the United States to facilitate the arrival of six individuals originating from Afghanistan and Cuba. This initiative is part of a broader cooperation framework involving the International Organization for Migration, which focuses on the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme. According to official reports, the selected group consists of skilled people who have not been involved in criminal activities. This arrangement functions as a temporary mechanism for third-country deportations. The government emphasized that the process involves rigorous vetting of all participants before their transfer to the country. This rollout represents the immediate implementation of the new migration policy agreed upon between both nations to manage specific cases through international support channels.
