Chartered accountant and attorney Christopher Ram has formally requested that the Guyanese administration implement ring-fencing measures for all upcoming petroleum developments within the Stabroek Block. The objective of this proposal is to utilize the government's administrative leverage to ensure that ExxonMobil is prohibited from utilizing revenues generated by current production fields to subsidize the costs of future exploration or development projects. By isolating the financial accounts of each individual project, Ram argues that the nation can better protect its share of oil profits and prevent the operator from eroding potential national earnings. This appeal follows ongoing public discourse regarding the fiscal management of the country's offshore resources and the necessity of maximizing economic returns for the state under existing contractual frameworks.
