During ongoing extradition hearings, Senior Superintendent Prem Narine, head of the Guyana Police Force’s special branch, testified that he is unaware of any negative remarks made by President Irfaan Ali, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, or Attorney General Anil Nandlall regarding Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed. The businessmen are currently facing a U.S. extradition request for alleged wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering. Despite defense lawyer Siand Dhurjon’s suggestion that the extradition is politically motivated, Narine maintained he had not observed government officials vilifying the suspects. Furthermore, the intelligence chief denied knowledge of claims by the Foreign Affairs Minister regarding alleged collusion between the Mohameds and the former Venezuelan leadership. While Narine acknowledged the businessmen's political involvement, he insisted he was being truthful to the court regarding his lack of awareness of these specific public statements.
